What is a Skills Assessment?

 

Skills Assessment is the process of recognising an individual’s skills and knowledge. Typically these skills and knowledge match the requirements of an Australian Qualification. The process is sometimes referred to as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Normally the assessment process will consist of a practical demonstration of skills, within a workplace. Where this is not possible, then a simulated activity can be performed.


 

What does the term AQF mean?

 

The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is a quality assured national framework of qualifications in the school, vocational education and training (VET), and higher education sectors in Australia. The Framework links together all these qualifications and is a highly visible, quality-assured national system of educational recognition which promotes lifelong learning and a seamless and diverse education and training system.

 

What is the difference between Tradesrecognition.com and other assessment agencies?

The many advantage of using our services. These include:

 

·         conducting a “Self Assessment” on each candidate, prior to enrolment, to ensure a definitive result can be attained. (This means we don’t charge you to see if you are a suitable candidate)

·         offering advice as to employment opportunities

·         our RTO’s provide “gap training” where the gaps in skills and knowledge exist.

·         we provide flexibility in the Skills Assessment process

·         we come to you and work with you to achieve the necessary results

·         we do not conduct assessments over webcam (this does not meet the compliance of the National Training Packages).


 

I hold an overseas qualification; will this count towards my Skills Assessment?

 

In simple terms YES. All Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s) associated with tradesrecognition.com, will accept and utilise overseas qualifications as part of the evidence base, within the Skills Assessment process. It must be realised that most Australian Qualifications, require additional skills and knowledge that is aligned to the Australian Standards and Australian Safety Standards.


 

How do I go about getting a trade licence so I can run my own business?

 

It must be first stated that the pathway to a trade licence in all regulatory states and territories, is through the application of a person, in possession of an Australian Trade Qualification, or higher.

 

Each state and territory has different standards for licensing against trade areas, however the requirement of qualifications is consistent. You will find that many of the trades are not a licence class in some states and territories. The Australian Government with each of the states cooperation are currently moving towards a single licensing system. Therefore, depending on the state and/or territory and your trade, depends on whether you need a trade licence. I need to have my skills recognised for an immigration visa. What is the process?

 

Tradesrecognition.com does not provide migration advice, we highly recommend using one of our corporate partners for this service. We do however offer advice in the application of a qualification towards possible pathways for migration.


 

I am a registered migration agent. How can you assist my clients?

 

Tradesrecognition.com does not provide migration advice and refers its clients to our corporate partners, where required.

How many years of experience is required to be assessed?

 

In simple terms, most trade qualifications require at least 4 years experience. Other qualifications offered by the RTO’s within tradesrecognition.com, may only be a minimum of one year. For an accurate appraisal of your needs, contact us to discuss your experience.


 

Where is the assessments conducted?

 

All assessments are conducted in a live workplace environment. If this is not possible, due to confidentiality, then tradesrecognition.com will arrange for the assessment to be conducted in an alternative location. For instance Chef Central has an international agreement with the Radisson Hotel Group, for the conduct of Skills Assessments, where required.


 

What if my qualification or skills are not listed here?

 

Tradesrecognition.com is a solutions provider. If your trade is not listed here or is unique, then we can certainly offer advice as to how to attain the required qualifications. Additionally, we will put you in touch with a training provider who can assist.
